Please note: This article is for informational purposes only. We do not encourage intake of Semax or any other nootropic substance listed/discussed/sold on this site. Any undesirable side effects from intake of Semax are sole responsibility of the user.
Semax with structure: Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro, is a heptapeptide known for its various benefits including its neurogenic, neuroprotective and nootropic effects. This drug is widely used and studied in Russia and is even included in the country’s List of Vital and Essential Drugs. It is being used for various purposes such as: immune system booster, mood enhancer, treatment for brain damage, optic nerve disease, cognitive disorders, etc. However, this drug is not yet approved nor evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Association but can be imported in the country for personal usage.
Semax is produced in the form of nasal drops. Since most nootropics are usually in the form of powder or tablets, some have doubts in taking this drug. Yet unknown to some, nasal administration (via the nasopharyngeal mucous membrane) is better absorbed by the body more than oral administration whereas the drug is absorbed through the digestive system.
- Nootropic Effect
Although relatively new in the world of mind-enhancing compounds, Semax has exhibited nootropic activity. In animal studies, Semax has significantly accelerated the training and learning of animals as well as greatly improved their passive avoidance behavior. In human studies, Semax has been shown to significantly increase short-term memory and even their attention span. Therefore, it is safe to say that Semax exhibited nootropic effects involving memory and cognitive enhancement whilst enhance attention span.
- Anxiolytic Properties
Another notable effect of Semax is its anxiolytic action. Studies have suggested that Semax reduces feelings of anxiety and depression. In an exploratory study conducted, this drug’s anxiolytic properties have been observed during emotional stress but has no effect during non-stress conditions. In this regard, the effect of Semax is attributed to its ability to activate the brain’s serotoninergic system during emotional stress.
As an anxiolytic, the mechanism of action of Semax is to increase the levels of serotonin and dopamine in the brain which helps in achieving a balanced and stable mood whilst stimulate the brain.
- Neuroprotective Effect
One of the more pronounced benefits of Semax is its neuroprotective activity. It was observed that this drug help reduce damaged cells caused by oxidative stress. In patients with cerebral ischemia, Semax has been shown to provide positive effects on cerebral blood flow. This drug can also increase resistance to hypoxia whilst improve survival. Moreover, Semax can also help prevent or reduce brain damage caused by stroke. Finally, this nootropic can be a potential treatment for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
Semax treatment has been shown to improve the overall functional state of the brain. Furthermore, this wonderful nootropic can help improve cognition, memory, audioverbal memory and attention as well as muscle function and mobility.
- Neurotrophic Effect
The neuroprotective effects of Semax can be associated with its neurotrophic effects. Neurotrophins belong to growth factors and are proteins that are responsible for the growth and survival of developing neurons as well as maintenance of mature neurons. In this regard, studies have shown that the neurotropic effects of Semax can be attributed to its capability to increase the expression of neurotrophins in both mRNA and protein levels.
- Ophthalmology Application
Studies on Semax has revealed that it has curative properties against various optic diseases such as: glaucoma optic neuropathy, optic nerve atrophy and diabetic neuropathy.
In glaucoma optic neuropathy, Semax exhibited therapeutic effects in this particular disease’s treatment by improving visual acuity, extend boundaries of visual fields as well as significantly improve the condition of some functional indicators that reflects the condition of the optic nerve. In the case of optic nerve atrophy, Semax improves recovery process and visual function by expanding the field of view, enhance color vision, increase visual acuity and cell metabolism, and stimulate optic nerve sensitivity and electrical conductivity. Finally, the use of Semax revealed positive effects on nonproliferative diabetic neuropathy which is developed due to Diabetes Melitus Type II.
- Other benefits:
Apart from this drug’s nootropic and neuroprtective activities, Semax has also been noted to exhibit healing effects in patients with peptic ulcer. Semax xan also help reduce headaches, chronic migraines whilst help achieve normal sleeping patterns.
This drug is considered very safe and without any serious side effects. It is also reported as having a low toxicity effect in the brain and liver as well as free from effects on hormonal activity. It has been evaluated to have no addictive effects and it does not interact with other drugs. However, Semax is relatively new in the field of nootropics that’s why early studies about it indicate this drug as safe. Therefore, it is still important to follow your doctor’s advice, follow proper dosing, and other precautions in taking this nootropic.
Recommended dosage is .25-1 mg per day or 2-3 drops in each nostril taken twice a day. A 3 ml bottle would contain 60 doses or approximately 120 drops.
