To fully describe the detailed effects of each of the 40 unique alkaloids and compounds within this plant is not feasible. However, there are two primary constituents which have been implicated in the majority of Ginkgo Biloba’s medicinal profile. These compounds are known as flavonoids and are commonly found in all plants and in some of our foods. The flavonoids within the Ginkgo Biloba plant have been shown to prevent neuroinflamation and improve cognition, as well as protecting against damage to the hearth and blood vessels. There are also compounds called Terpinoids, which have been implicated in the dilation of blood vessels allowing for an increase to the amount of Oxygen available to the brain. Terpinoids have also been shown to reduce the adhesion seen between platelets which further improves circulation.
